1. Apparently trivial accidental deletion of data files;
2. Simple accidents such as coffee spilled on the server tower or plumbing leaking onto laptops, computers etc;

4. Theft of hardware such as your server being stolen during a break-in or a laptop stolen from an employee’s car;
5. More dramatic incidents such as fire or flood in the office.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:

These services are designed to protect you from disastrous data loss through either loss of or damage to equipment and restoration of data lost through accidental deletion and they fall into 2 categories:

1.    Onsite data replication:

Here we create images of the entire system state, including operating system, user settings, applications and data which are held on site allowing us to restore systems to:

1. Identical hardware (e.g. desktop with replacement hard drive)
2. Dissimilar hardware (e.g. laptop replacing stolen unit)
3. Bare metal (e.g. replacement server)
4. Virtual servers allowing us to replace the data and functionality of a server using a machine held off site

2.    Offsite data backup:

In an ideal world, all your data would be backed up off site.  All too often however, this is not practical, as bandwidth frequently limits the volume of data that can be sent on and off site, thus, to get around this we have the following options:

Master Disk Imaging and Archiving:

When disk images are too large to be backed up using the available bandwidth, we create a master image.  The master image is sent to the data centre for storage, with changes corresponding to those on the local system being added to that master image and restoration of that image being simply the reverse of that process. This process can also be used where long term secure data archiving is required.

Critical Data Storage:

Here, critical files are sent to a data centre facility where they are stored with incremental changes, meaning critical data such as accounts and sales databases are protected from total loss disasters such as fire or flood. All data is encrypted and password protected ensuring your business and its data remain secure at all times.
